17th Sunday in Ordinary Time (July 30, 2023)
1 Kings 3.5-12; Rom 8.28-30; Mt 13.44-52
We are called today to place our priorities in right order. Solomon chose wisdom, the merchant, the pearl. When faced with difficult questions, we too must decide what is of greatest value, and abandon everything else. Those considering abortion may sacrifice much if they choose life, but they can be assured of God’s abundant blessings, because life is God’s greatest gift.
Solomon is apprehensive about governing the people while he is such a young man. Yet, God strengthens him in his youthfulness for the task of governing Israel. In the pro-life cause, some of the greatest soldiers for life are our young people, who promote the Gospel of Life - let us encourage them in their efforts to put their talents at the service of God.
All things work together for good for those who love God. Therefore, let us not despair when we are confronted with the evil of abortion in Canada today. Somehow, God will work even this - which seems unworkable - into His great plan.
When certain souls encounter the prospect of working in the vineyard of the Lord, every other career loses its attraction. These are the souls who sell everything they have, purchase the field, and dig up their treasure. Let us pray that God will enkindle a fire in the hearts of a chosen few to have them recognize the pearl that is a life given in defence of life.
Pro-Life Intercession
We pray that the Holy Spirit will awake within certain chosen souls an ardent desire to give of themselves for the cause of life. We pray to the Lord ...
