27th Sunday of Ordinary Time (October 6, 2019)

Hab 1.2-3; 2.2-4; 2 Tim 1.6-8, 13-14; Lk 17.5-10

  • Every Christian is called to work tirelessly to promote the Gospel of Life. St. Paul reminds us that we are not alone in this: God has blessed us with a “spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.”

  • We can expect to face much opposition from our culture, but we need not be afraid or ashamed. Instead, St. Paul invites us to join him in suffering for the Gospel. Pope Benedict adds, “even the small inconveniences of daily life [when united with Christ’s passion] could acquire meaning and contribute to the economy of good and of human love” (Spe Salvi, 40) In this way, let us offer many small sacrifices for the sake of the Gospel of Life.

  • We can only be effective in promoting the Gospel of Life if we are firmly rooted in faith. Like the apostles we must ask for an increase in faith so that we may persevere in speaking the truth.
