The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary & Joseph (December 31, 2023)

The family is the “Sanctuary of Life” and the basic cell of society. The Holy Family, of course, is unique. One member is God, another is sinless, and the third is a saint. But the great lesson of today is that although God could have come into the world in any way he pleased, he chose to become a member of a family, obedient to his earthly parents, and yet totally devoted to the Heavenly Father’s will, as we all must be.

Epiphany of the Lord (January 8, 2023)

On this great solemnity, the Magi, who represent the Gentiles or the non-Jewish peoples of the world, pay homage to the infant Jesus, the “King of the Jews.” Their response to Christ is sharply contrasted to that of King Herod who sought to kill Him. Both the Magi and King Herod acknowledged that Jesus is a King. Both recognized that Jesus’ birth was going to change the status quo.
