Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls Day) (November 2, 2025)
Wis 3.1-9; Rev 21.1-5a, 6b-7; Lk 7.11-17
Today we are called to remember the faithful departed who have gone before us to their judgement. Our hope is that our brothers and sisters who laboured to spread the Gospel of Life, through various works within the pro-life movement, have received a favourable judgement for their good works. As we hear in the first reading: “Having been disciplined a little, they will receive a great good, because God tested them and found them worthy of Himself.”
We await the coming of the New Jerusalem where God will “make all things new”, “wipe all tears away”, and “death will be no more”; as was foreshadowed in the Gospel when Jesus raised the son of the widow from Nain.
While we seek justice here on earth for the protection of all human life, we must never forget that our hope is in Jesus Christ who has conquered death and through Whom the culture of death is already definitively defeated.
