5th Sunday of Easter (May 15, 2022)
Acts 14.21b-27; Rev 21.1-5a; Jn 13.1, 31-33, 34-35
After giving the New Commandments (mandatum novum), our Blessed Lord adds, “This is how all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” Thus, the Christian will not be identified by any other quality – not intelligence, humility nor chastity. He will be recognized by his fraternal charity.
Jesus Christ sets the standard, making His own love the model: “as I have loved you.” Christ loved His disciples with Divine love.
We should love everyone, without exception, even those who oppose our Catholic values, because they are all children of the same Father. When we as Pro-Lifers find it hard to love our opponents, we should recall the example of our Saviour who forgave the very people who nailed him to the cross.
