2nd Sunday of Advent (December 10, 2023)

Is 40.1-5, 9-11; 2 Pet 3.8-14; Mk 1.1-8

  • In his letter, St. Peter addressed the belief that Christ’s return in glory has been delayed, reasoning that what looks like “slowness” is instead God’s generous patience giving us time to repent, lest we “perish”.

  • God wants to give us a chance to turn back to Him. This is a message of hope for those who have participated in sins against life in any way. Whether fear or stubbornness or sloth has kept us from Him, He calls us back to repentance.

  • We do not know when the Lord will come again. St. Peter says that “the day of the Lord will come like a thief.” So let us examine our own lives without delay and see what sort of persons we must become.
