23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time (September 4, 2022)
Wis 9.13-18; Philemon 9b-10, 12-17; Lk 14.25-33
Many say that having an unplanned child, especially those born into poor, single or unloving homes, condemns both the child and the mother to a life of great difficulty. But as the first reading suggests, “Who can know God’s counsel, or who can conceive what the Lord intends?”
The Lord has wonderful things in store for those who choose life, especially when “humanly speaking” it may not make much sense. And while it is strange to think of pregnancy as a cross, as our Lord says in today’s Gospel, we cannot be His disciple unless we carry our own cross and follow him.
