8th Sunday in Ordinary Time (February 27, 2022)

Sir 27. 4-7; 1 Cor 15.54-58; Lk 6.39-45

  • Jesus stresses the importance of having humility. To be humble is to live in reality, to accept weaknesses, and use our strengths for the glory of God, not for our own merit. Humility is essential to living a holy life.

  • Jesus is not saying we should not correct our neighbours. Rather, it is charitable, as iron sharpens iron (see Proverbs 27:17). Correcting your neighbours is an important and hard part of the Christian life. However, it should not be done to put yourself above others, but with a heart willing the good of another.

  • We should always correct politicians who follow a pro-death agenda, but what merit is it if we do not love and give to mothers in need or to spend time with the abandoned who seek meaning in the final moments of life? If we focus too much on the big picture, we can easily lose sight of everyday problems. Having pro-life legislation would be a tremendous victory, but smaller victories are had every day when we love the people who need it most.

Pro-Life Intercession

That all people may love their neighbours in small ways, especially for those who need help with children and those searching for meaning, so that by their charity, all may come to know Christ, we pray to the Lord...
