19th Sunday in Ordinary Time (August 9, 2020)

1 Kings 19.9, 11-13; Rom 9.1-5; Mt 14:22-33

  • God is gentle; His “voice speaks of peace.” Elijah discovered God in “a sound of sheer silence;” the disciples found peace when Jesus entered their boat. If we want to be like God we must also conduct ourselves in peace. We may be zealous about the cause for life, but we must never allow ourselves to act frantically, or chaotically.

  • We are asked at times to be bold. Peter, knowing that he would be safe with Jesus, stepped out of the boat and into the chaotic storm. • Our hearts, like Elijah’s, must be open to receive God, however He appears. We must heed Jesus’ advice to “not be afraid,” but to have great faith. Surely Jesus will reach out His hand and catch us. Let us say with deep faith, “Jesus, I trust in you!”.

  • Pro-Life Intercession: That all who are pregnant and feel they cannot carry their child will find new strength from the presence of Christ who says, “Do not be afraid”, we pray to the Lord...
