2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time (January 16th, 2022)

Isa 62.1-5; 1 Cor 12.4-11; Jn 2.1-12

  • Along with the feeding of the 5,000 (the multiplication of the loaves), the wedding feast of Cana is a New Testament prefiguration of the Most Holy Eucharist.

  • It is a sign that demonstrates the divinity of Christ and his saving mission, which is to unite us to the Father and usher in the Kingdom of God.

  • Here, Our divine Saviour changes water into wine and it is significant that this happened in a wedding celebration, for in marriage, a man and woman become one and this union gives life.

  • At the Holy Eucharist, our union with Christ takes place! And there is a marital covenantal relationship between Christ and his Church.

  • During today’s Holy Mass, during the Eucharistic Prayer, try and recall that at the Last Supper, Our Lord’s words indicated that the Eucharist is a participation in the definitive wedding feast of the lamb when He said: “blessed are those called to the super of the Lamb”.
