30th Sunday in Ordinary Time (October 25, 2020)

Ex 22.21-27; 1 Thess 1.5c-10; Mt 22.34-40

  • In the passage from Exodus, one of the social laws which people must observe is the care of “aliens,” widows, and orphans. Another word for “alien” is immigrant.

  • While the Pro-life movement rightly spends a lot of energy defending the sanctity of life from conception to natural death, we have naturally focused on those controversial issues surrounding the beginning and end of human life (abortion, embryonic stem cell research, and euthanasia.)

  • Today’s readings are a good reminder for us to recall that God wants us to show just as much special care and protection to immigrants, widows, and orphans as we do to the unborn and elderly. To be truly pro-life is to “love your neighbour as yourself.”

  • Pro-Life Intercession: That God, who hears the cry of all who are injured and vulnerable, may open our ears to that same cry and enable us to build a culture of life, we pray to the Lord...
